Seting up an artisanal working place in Sangrur

Location: Village Sangrur, Punjab


Objective:

To set up loom and wrapping drum in a central location to enable weavers to work from a central location, in addition to their homes

To set up a pedal loom of size 60” width and graduate the Punjabi Khes weavers from the pit loom to the pedal loom

To set up a wrapping drum to enable weavers to wrap yarn easily

To training the Khes weavers to weave “single-patta” Khes


Result / Impact

Weaver are able save time wrapping yarn at a central location

Weavers were able to weave a broader Khes , therefore avoiding the joinery – a product that would have a greater market value

Weavers are looking at the centralised location as their “work”place
